Bloom cyanotype by Carolyn Quartermaine

Carolyn Quartermaine

You know that place between sleep and awake, the place where you can still remember dreaming? That’s where I’ll always love you. That’s where I’ll be waiting.”
J.M. Barrie – Peter Pan

For us, Carolyn perfectly evokes the sense of other-worldliness that Barrie hints at in these words. Her beautifully evocative, photographic studies of flowers, gardens and buildings, have an enchanted quality that adds to their mystery. For her photography is the very essence of story-telling, capturing the emotion and uniqueness of a moment in time. Her career as an artist encompasses many disciplines, but there are unifying themes throughout, in particular her deep knowledge and love of history, literature and philosophy. Like the rarest and most beautiful of butterflies, she refuses to be pinned down.
